RTI Student Support Coordinator

LPS Richmond is seeking applicants for the RTI Student Support Coordinator position.

Ideally, the RTI Student Support Coordinator will:

  • Have experience working with youth from under-resourced communities
  • Have a vision for building a solution based intervention program geared towards promoting academic and socio-emotional success
  • Have experience working with a large caseload of students
  • Have superb organizational skills, including tracking and documenting intervention procedures
  • Have experience working in the Richmond community and a passion for serving Richmond youth and their families.
  • Spanish fluency (preferred)

Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure students on-time graduation and A-G Eligibility
  • Create and sustain an effective course pathway for all students to college-ready graduation
  • Be responsible for Student scheduling through an A-G pathway
  • Base placement on a thorough review of student data including credits, percent scores in failing courses, and relevant test scores
  • Create, manage, and submit course requests using the LPS provided data tools
  • Collaborate with Principal and HO to ensure accurate constraints/requests
  • Complete course requests with sufficient time to inform Spring staffing decisions and early-mid August final master and student schedules
  • Enact process for a final revisiting of course requests after summer school
  • Collaborate with College Team to stay up to date and aligned with college eligibility requirements
  • Collaborate with other staff to use data to appropriate place students in intervention courses
  • Collaborate with AP teachers and Academic Deans to manage an accessible, equitable AP selection and placement process
  • Manage system for student preference to inform AP placement
  • Implements system for scheduling transfer students, including reviewing transcripts to identify correct course placements and any remediation needs; meeting with students and families to gather input, review schedule and expectations, and build buy-in; creating schedules for students, and entering all transfer courses onto LPS transcript via data system (Illuminate)

A-G Course List Managment:

  • Keep UC Doorways updated with current courses
  • Communicate and coordinate with school instructional leaders and college counselors

College Knowledge:

  • Create and lead workshops for students, parents, staff on A-G eligibility & college competitiveness
  • Manage the Tier 2 System to identify and respond to student need for focused intervention and support
  • Manage Tier 2 programs, systems, and personnel to provide effective support for students facing barriers to learning and well-being

Manage the Tutorial Program:

  • Communicate with staff and students about placement
  • Place students in tutorials based on academic data & recommendations
  • Provide HO with updated tutorial placements for data upload
  • Use student data to inform types of tutorial classes provided
  • Support teachers to ensure tutorial effectiveness

Manage the Support Team:

  • Create and run PD meetings for team targeted toward staff learning needs
  • Run weekly check-ins with Student Ally and Mental Health teams to ensure progress toward goals and alignment with program principles and practices
  • Guide attention to both caseload and schoolwide outcomes and issues
  • Coordinate and supervise school counseling interns
  • Coach Student Allies to continue to develop skills toward meeting all students’ needs

Manage Support Structures and Systems: 

  • Manage Tier 2 referral system:  communicate to teachers and staff, receive all referrals, and respond to referees in a timely manner
  • Place students into appropriate interventions and supports
  • Ensure that students and providers collaborate to set and monitor progress on goals
  • Continue to develop programs and methods to effectively respond to student needs
  • Schedule and hold SSTs for students with more complex, persistent needs
  • Manage GLAD meetings, including compiling data,  collaborating with grade level leads, and running the “Students to Hold Close” portion
  • Review data to identify new needs and track and guide Tier 2 progress
  • Coordinate with the Mental Health Coordinator and RSPs to ensure integrated care

Manage Remediation and On-Track Graduation System: 

  • Create a schoolwide remediation policy that delineates remediation procedures and pathway
  • Create and implement interventions throughout the year to prevent need for remediation (parent meetings, tutorials, tier 2 classes, etc.)
  • Collaborate with stakeholders (student, parent, grade level team) to reduce repetition of classes
  • Enter remediated classes on Illuminate
  • Perform transcript checks to ensure accurate remediation
  • Collaborate with Academic Deans in the creation and rollout of Summer School, including identifying staff to teach, ensuring modules are created, notifying families, creating class rosters, and recruiting and training summer peer tutors

Provide 504 Case Management: 

  • Create 504 plans to respond to student needs via SST process
  • Hold yearly meetings to review accommodations
  • Communicate student accommodations with staff
  • Monitor and support accommodation implementation

Establish Positive, Effective Relationships with Students:

  • Provide solution-focused, emotionally supported, action-centered conversations/counseling
  • Facilitate meetings between students and teachers
  • Advocate on behalf of our students via email or in person

Engage Staff and Families As Collaborators in Support:

  • Set-up parent meetings to discuss concerns, progress, and discuss types of interventions needed
  • Facilitate meetings between families and teachers Closely collaborate with the Dean of Students to support students facing attendance and/or behavior concerns
  • Communicate ongoing with teachers and other involved staff
  • Act as a facilitator between student and teacher in order to be able to address particular issues
  • Create and present specified PD for staff or teams (e.g. Crisis protocol, Students to Hold Close, etc.) in response to need

Oversee and Provide Crisis Counseling:

  • Manage Support Team to provide crisis counseling and follow school protocols
  • Participate in/and provide crisis counseling as part of a team
