Para Educator

Leadership Public Schools is seeking a Para Educator at their Hayward campus.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct instruction/support to one student whose needs were identified in an IEP developed by the IEP team
  • Attends IEP meetings to review their student’s achievement and progress toward meeting annual goals and objectives
  • Demonstrates teaching strategies and utilizes materials considered appropriate and effective in meeting both academic and non-academic needs of identified special education students
  • Utilizes assessment results in developing IEP goals and objectives to accommodate individual needs
  • Coordinates results of assessments with School Psychologist and Director of Special Education to prepare a multi-disciplinary team report at each initial or triennial review
  • Establishes effective working relationships with teachers, staff and parents
  • Provides technical expertise to teachers and staff as it relates to serving students with special needs
  • Originates and follows procedures for an appropriate and efficient record keeping system to monitor student’s attendance and progress on goals and objectives
  • Provides emphasis on meeting state requirements for a diploma; college admission; and preparation for adult life
  • Provides consultation to school staff and parents which may relate to student assessment, specialized instruction or behavior management

  • Evidence of professional reflection and collaborative work
  • Experience in urban schools
  • Experience teaching with varied instructional strategies
  • High school diploma or the equivalent, and Two years of college (48 units), or A. A. degree (or higher)
  • A commitment to both excellence and equity
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt easily
  • Willingness to contribute to student activities, instructional office hours, and school committee
  • Comfortable with a charter environment including flexible roles
