LPS is Seeking Spanish Teachers

LPS is seeking talented high school Spanish teachers for our Spanish 1 and 2 Non-Native Spanish courses.  We are looking for teachers who are energized by the LPS  mission and are committed to educational equity for historically underserved youth.  Our Introductory Spanish program:

  • Uses 1:1 laptops and Navigate Spanish, an innovative, personalized, online program developed by LPS, that enables students to move through Spanish 1 and 2 at their own pace.
  • Engages students in conversation and collaboration on projects that span both course levels.
  • Assumes all students are capable of self-directed learning as well as deep collaboration, able to master reading, writing, and speaking the Spanish language.
  • Cultivates students identities as language learners and users and builds appreciation for the value of speaking a second language.
  • Values creating connection among students through learning language and supporting positive identity exploration.
  • Commits to ensuring language learning is a positive experience which incorporates student experiences and interests.

Essential Qualifications:

  • B.A., or B.S required; Master’s Degree desirable
  • Two or more years teaching experience, particularly in a school serving low-income students and students of color
  • Appropriate CA Teaching credential with EL authorization (strongly preferred)
  • Commitment to achieving equitable educational outcomes with strong cultural competency and cross-cultural communication skills
  • Deep content knowledge and enthusiasm for Spanish within and beyond the classroom
  • Experience using assessment and data to refine curricula and inform instruction
  • Evidence of professional reflection and collaboration
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Able to leverage educational technology including the Google Suite
  • Willingness to participate in shared leadership and student support beyond the classroom
  • Comfort working in a charter environment that includes ongoing iteration and flexible roles

Position:

This is a full-time position of 190 days including 8 days of professional development. There are seven optional additional instructional collaboration/ professional development days and many opportunities for stipended curriculum work and teacher leadership.

Compensation is commensurate with experience and education. We offer a generous benefits package that includes:
